INTRODUCTION

Edo State Community and Social Development Agency was established by the Law of Edo State House of Assembly. The Agency became credit effective on the 1st of July 2009.

The basic goal of this Agency is to improve access to service for Human Development (HD). This is to be achieved through the empowerment of communities and Local Government Local Authorities (LGA) for sustainable increase access of poor people to improved social and natural resources infrastructure.

The Agency is to empower communities to plan, part –fund, implement and monitor and maintain sustainable and socially inclusive multi-sectorial micro-projects in a sustainable manner.

All the above are to be achieved through Community – Driven Development approach where the communities are at the driver’s seat. The challenge of achieving this objectives rests on the dynamic and committed Management Team of

Mr. Femi Omo Ekhabafe,                                 Monitoring & Evaluation Manager (MEM) and

ACTIVITIES:

Since the Agency became credit effective on the 1st of July, 2009, it has embarked on several activities in accordance with the Project Development Objectives (PDO). The first major activity the Agency embarked upon was the sensitization at the Local Government Personnel in the State. To this extent, more than 300 communities in the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State have been sensitized and more than 120 Advocacy visits have been made to various Agencies and Government Parastatals in order to create awareness.

 The success of this sensitization and advocacy visits resulted in more than 350 communities expressing their interests in various micro-projects for their communities. The Agency so far  carried out Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) in 162 communities  across the State and so far 88  Community Development Plan (CDP) have been facilitated in conjunction with  the communities. Various training programme have been organised for various Communities Community Project Management Committee (CPMC), Local Government Review Committee (LGRC) and staff. These activities have supported the implementation of various micro-projects now at various stages of completion.

 MICRO-PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

CDP FORMULATION AND MICRO –PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

The World Bank (WB) approved 10 Community Development Plans (CDPs) with 20 micro- projects for the Agency, since then, the Agency have graduated to approving CDPs on its own. Since this graduation the Agency had approved 68 CDPs bringing the total of approval to 87 CDPs (183 Micro-projects).

In terms of implementation 46 Micro-Projects are on-going out of which 102 Mirco-Projects have been fully completed.

His Excellency, the Comrade Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole inaugurated the Board of Edo State Agency for Community and Social Development Project on 4th of April, 2012.

Iwu (Permanent Secretary, Budget, Planning & Economic Development); Mr. E.O. Odiai (Permanent Secretary, Works); Rev. S.O. Ohonba (JP), (Permanent Secretary, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs); Mr. V.A. Oleghe, (Permanent Secretary, Finance); Mrs. F.E Ebonyi-Idundun, (Permanent Secretary, Women Affairs); and Dr. Gbenga Daodu, General Manager/Board Secretary.

EDO-CSDA POVERTY MAPPING - Monday, December 17, 2012

Poverty mapping was conducted in 18 LGAs across the State. Five (5) Communities per LGA was surveyed for social facilities poverty mapping. Validated profile for each community and LGAs, poverty estimates for small communities reference  to level of social welfare facilities, and detailed maps and report were produced by the Consultant.
